What Affects Your Countertop Remodel Cost
No hidden fees — here's exactly what drives pricing so you can make informed decisions
Stone Material
Very High ImpactBasic quartz starts at $50/sq ft installed. Premium quartzite can exceed $150/sq ft. For a 40 sq ft kitchen, that's $2,000 vs. $6,000+ in material cost difference.
Edge Profile
Low-Medium ImpactStandard eased edge is included. Premium profiles (ogee, waterfall, laminated edge) add $10-$30 per linear foot. A 25 linear foot kitchen = $250-$750 extra.
Number of Cutouts
Low ImpactStandard sink cutout is included. Additional cutouts for cooktops, soap dispensers, or faucet holes are $50-$150 each.
Complexity of Layout
Medium ImpactL-shaped and U-shaped kitchens require seams. Each seam is $150-$300 for color-matched epoxy bonding. Islands require separate template and installation visits.
Expert Tip from Our Countertop Specialists
When choosing between quartz and natural stone, visit a slab yard in person — photos never capture the true color and pattern. We take all our clients to our partner fabricator's slab yard to hand-select their exact slab. This eliminates surprises and ensures you love your countertop before fabrication begins. It's also the best way to plan seam placement on natural stone — you can see exactly where patterns align.
Common Countertop Remodeling Mistakes
Templating before cabinets are final
Countertops are templated to within 1/16 of an inch. If cabinets shift even slightly after templating, the countertop won't fit. We always verify cabinets are fully secured and level before templating.
Ignoring overhang support
Any overhang greater than 10 inches (like a breakfast bar) needs support brackets or a corbel every 24-36 inches. Without support, stone countertops can crack from weight or impact.
Choosing based on sample alone
A 4×4 inch sample can't show the full pattern movement of a slab. What looks subtle in a sample may be dramatic across 40 sq ft. Always view the full slab.

Countertop Remodeling — Frequently Asked Questions
QQuartz vs granite — which is better for kitchens?
Both are excellent. Quartz is non-porous (no sealing ever) and more consistent in appearance. Granite is heat-resistant and each slab is unique. If you set hot pots directly on counters, choose granite. If you want zero maintenance, choose quartz. Both last 25+ years with proper care.
QHow are seams handled in large countertops?
Our fabricators plan seams at the least visible locations — typically behind the sink or at inside corners. We use color-matched epoxy that bonds at a molecular level. On quality installations, seams are barely detectable to the touch or eye.
QCan you install countertops over existing ones?
It's not recommended. Stacking countertops adds excessive weight, makes plumbing access difficult, and creates height issues with appliances. We always remove the old counter for a proper installation with correct overhang and level support.
QWhat edge profile do you recommend?
For modern kitchens: eased (slightly rounded) or mitered edge. For traditional: ogee or dupont. For a statement piece: waterfall edge (where the countertop continues down the side of the island). The edge profile should match your cabinet style.
QHow do I care for my new countertops?
Quartz: Simply wipe with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals and direct heat. Granite/marble: Use stone-safe cleaners, reseal annually (we provide the sealer), and wipe spills promptly. All stone: Use cutting boards and trivets — they protect the surface and your knives.
